A Brief History of Me on the Internet

I have been active as a blogger since the early aughts, and I collected my various websites to jacquiesevers.blogspot.com in 2010 and blogged there (fairly) consistently up until 2016.  Following that, I wrote a biweekly column called Twin Perks for The Review Newspaper and collected those on this website. The column was a series of essays about parenting twins. Due to ‘the everything’ of 2020, I ceased writing it after more than a year. However, I was named the 2018 Ontario Community Newspapers Association Columnist of the Year. That was pretty great.

Now I am most routinely spending time microblogging, if you’d like to follow my Thoughts and Feelings (Instagram) or thoughts and opinions (Linkedin).

My Primary Occupation

My day job is in Marketing and Tourism, in the field of Economic Development and Tourism. I promote Durham Region to trade, talent and tourists, with the ultimate goal of creating jobs and fostering a prosperous region. I am currently studying for a Masters in Place Branding at Middlesex University in the UK under Dr. Giannina Warren with an expected completion of Fall 2024.

Prior to my current role I gathered 20 years of award-winning marketing experience developing and promoting brands in a broad range of categories—from fashion and home décor, to craft beer and the museum sector.

I usually say I’m a graphic designer by trade, and those years at George Brown College and my early career in the field deeply influenced my view on great marketing. The field of Graphic Design has afforded me an incredible network of marketing peers and colleagues. Over the years I have gathered education credentials from George Brown College, University of Guelph, University of Waterloo and Durham College. I consider myself to be a lifelong learner, not the least of which includes a goal of having mastery over every single new social media platform that emerges.

I am a community enthusiast (both digital and in real life) and I love to talk about how marketing influences our worldview; from the typeface used on a sign to the narratives that influence our understanding of a destination. If you’d like to connect please send me a message through my contact form or via Linkedin.
